Spotlight on a Renovation

Historic homes don’t typically have open floor plans, an abundance of closet space, more than two bathrooms, or come turn key ready. But, the charm of history doesn’t mean leaving quaint at the corner and sacrificing modern conveniences.

Each month we’ll spotlight a neighborhood home that is undergoing a renovation. Some may be a single room getting redone, but some may be taken down to the studs. If you’d like to share your renovation story with your neighbors, please reach out to our webmaster.

This month we’re shining a light on 1314 Clinton Avenue. This home is still undergoing renovation, so we’ll check back in when the remodel is complete.

In addition to a new interior and a reimagined use of space, this home had a new roof, all new HVAC, new plumbing and new windows on the sides and back of the house.

This home had fallen into a state of disrepair and needed to be taken down to the studs during the remodeling process.

What drew this homeowner to Five Points?

She had always wanted to renovate an older home, but thought that possibility had passed because she had no intention of moving again after building a home three years ago.

One day good friends of hers called with news that the house next door to them was on the market. She thought this was an excellent opportunity for her to have that exciting renovation experience. As a bonus, she is now neighbors with friends she has known for years and is only a few blocks from family and other friends.

The quaint area with appealing period homes and Five Points is a charming neighborhood close to the arts and fine dining. I especially love the front porch experience of seeing neighbors enjoy the outdoors walking, biking, stopping to say, “Hello.” It seems like stepping back to older times yet with modern conveniences in close reach.

This home is wrapping up it’s renovation. Check back to see the finished work.
